Richmond Hill from the Thames
Watercolour
20 x 16 inc mount
The footpath from Twickenham to Richmond Bridge along River Thames gives this view towards Richmond Hill, Petersham Meadows and the Petersham Hotel. The scene is dominated by the Royal Star and Garter Home on top of the hill.
It was opened in 1924 by George V and Queen Mary for, and as a memorial to, disabled sailors, soldiers and airmen.
From the terrace next to the home a magnificent view stretches as far as Windsor Castle. It has been painted many times probably most famously by JMW Turner who lived in Twickenham
