Smallhythe is a little village near Tenterden, once a sea port famous for its ship building, it is now some miles from the coast.
Smallhythe Place next to the church was once the home of the actress Ellen Terry and is now in the care of the National Trust. It has an interesting collection of memorabilia connected with the stage.
